Step 9

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives strength to the weary,

And to him who lacks might He increases power.

30 Though youths grow weary and tired,

And vigorous young men stumble badly,

31 Yet those who wait for the LORD

Will gain new strength;

They will mount up with wings like eagles,

They will run and not get tired,

They will walk and not become weary.

Deuteronomy 34:1 and 7

1 Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho 7 Although Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died, his eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated.

Note: Moses climbed a mountain to the top at age 120!

Caleb (in Joshua 14), too, when he was an old man and entering the Promised Land was as strong as when he was a young man…

Joshua 14:7-11

7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought word back to him as it was in my heart. 8 Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear; but I followed the LORD my God fully. 9 So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have followed the LORD my God fully.’ 10 Now behold, the LORD has let me live, just as He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, when Israel walked in the wilderness; and now behold, I am eighty-five years old today. 11 I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in.

Genesis 5:24 (NIV)

Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

Hebrews 11:5

By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. Note: Look what happens when we are pleasing to God!

Again, Psalm 92:12-15

12 The righteous man (in conduct and character) will flourish like the palm tree,

He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13 Planted in the house of the LORD,

They will flourish in the courts of our God.

14 They will still yield fruit in old age;

They shall be full of sap and very green,

15 To declare that the LORD is upright;

He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Genesis 39:23

23 The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s charge because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made to prosper. Note: No matter what circumstances or trial Joseph went through, whatever he did turned out to prosper.

Job 5:26-7

26 "You will come to the grave in full vigor, like the stacking of grain in its season. 27 "Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself."

Job 33:25

25 Let his flesh become fresher than in youth,

Let him return to the days of his youthful vigor;

Psalm 91 (all)

1 He who dwells (that is, those devoted to God and seeking Him first in all they do) in the shelter of the Most High

Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress,

My God, in whom I trust!”

3 For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper

And from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with His pinions,

And under His wings you may seek refuge;

His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.

5 You will not be afraid of the terror by night,

Or of the arrow that flies by day;

6 Of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,

Or of the destruction that lays waste at noon.

7 A thousand may fall at your side

And ten thousand at your right hand,

But it shall not approach you.

8 You will only look on with your eyes

And see the recompense of the wicked.

9 For you have made the LORD, my refuge,

Even the Most High, your dwelling place (that is, you have chosen to dwell with, be devoted to, and love the Lord and obey His commandments, with His help).

10 No evil will befall you,

Nor will any plague come near your tent.

11 For He will give His angels charge concerning you,

To guard you in all your ways.

12 They will bear you up in their hands,

That you do not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and cobra,

The young lion and the serpent you will trample down.

14 “Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him;

I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.

15 “He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and honor him.

16 “With a long life I will satisfy him

And let him see My salvation.”

Psalm 121

The LORD the Keeper of Israel.

A Song of Ascents.

1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;

From where shall my help come?

2 My help comes from the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not allow your foot to slip;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

4 Behold, He who keeps Israel

Will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is your keeper;

The LORD is your shade on your right hand.

6 The sun will not smite you by day (so no need to worry about skin cancer),

Nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will protect you from all evil;

He will keep your soul.

8 The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in

From this time forth and forever.

Again, John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

John 10:10

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. Note: This is not necessarily a prosperity promise although it will be when we know how to handle money and can be trusted by God with His money as His steward of such, but it is a verse promising an abundant life with health and vigor.

Exodus 15:2

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him—my father’s God, and I will exalt him!

Comment: But be aware that even in healing victory symptoms can still hound us for a time after the victory. It has been said that these symptoms can be from a scientific belief that cell memory can cause symptoms even after a healing or the symptoms can remain in your mind (or both and the same, or maybe Satan or his cohorts keep reminding us, who knows). Living daily with God's Word will keep our minds on the promises of God and healing, and not the symptoms.

True victory is an ultimate belief in Psalm 23 and the comfort that it gives. Further as we grow in the Word and with it Faith, we will receive all the promises of Psalm 23 representing true victory in Christ…

Psalm 23:1-6 A Psalm of David

Summarized from the book “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23, Phillip Keller where he compares how a shepherd takes care of his flock just as the Lord, our shepherd, takes care of us.

The LORD is my shepherd.

God is like a shepherd whose sheep are the special object of his affection and attention and who will always care for them, even though they require endless attention and meticulous care.

I shall not want.

We are not lacking in anything while under God’s control and management of our lives and also we should be contented therein, not craving or desiring anything we don’t yet have, and knowing that “He who watches over you will not slumber”.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

When we follow God’s word and fully comprehend what He does for us as our shepherd, we can be rest assured during the day and sleep comfortably at night as we are free from fear, free from friction with others, and not tormented by the problems of the world or even left hungry.

He leads me beside quiet waters

By submitting to God for everything in our lives, He will lead us into a contented, quiet, at rest and relaxed life and that He delights to see us refreshed and satisfied. It also means that it is He that can lead us beside quiet waters and not the world and all its pursuit of knowledge, science, academics, off-beat stuff, feverish sports, endless social activities, hobbies and community efforts and agendas all of which lead us only to the same haunting, hollow, empty, unfilled lives if done without Him as first and foremost in our lives. PUT HIM FIRST IN YOUR LIFE AND ALL THINGS SUCH AS THE ABOVE WILL BE ADDED.

He restores my soul

If we ever feel hopeless and without strength because of the effect of the world around us and all its lacking’s, evil, and temptations, God will restore us and make us to “mount up with wings like eagles” as He says in Isaiah 40:31.

He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake

Instead of living a stubborn do as I like lifestyle, we will be guided by God to live differently and in a way that restores us. This includes… a) Instead of living for self, we are willing to pursue loving Jesus and others more than self, b) Instead of being one of the crowd, we are willing to be set apart, c) Instead of insisting on our own rights, we are willing to forego them in favor of others, d) Instead of being “boss”, we are willing to be a servant to others, e) Instead of always finding fault with life, we are willing to accept our circumstances knowing that God knows what’s best for us, f) Instead of asserting our will, we are willing to learn from God, and finally, g) Instead of choosing our own way, we are willing to choose to follow Jesus and His way while knowing that all things will turn out for good because God loves us and He says so in His Word. This we do ALL for Him, to glorify Him to others for His name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil (or I will not be in awe), for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me

Even though we are a part of a fallen, dark and distressed world around us, we can be assured that during whatever we are going through He is watching over us and will keep us from harm if we choose to follow Him and allow Him to be our shepherd and thereby dwelling in His house per Psalm 91.

You prepare a table before me (you go before me) in the presence of my enemies

God goes before you to prepare the way no matter where you are going just as a shepherd goes ahead of the flock to prepare the land (or as they call it, the table) and to rid it of any enemies even before we get there.

You have anointed my head with oil

This means, keeping me from sickness just as a shepherd would use a special oil to protect his sheep from parasites, bugs, and other diseases.

My cup overflows

We are overflowing with the promises and benefits, such as health and healing, protection, provision, and abundant life, that only God could supply as our shepherd by watching over and taking care of us, not as the world can do.

Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life

We are confident of Gods provision, wisdom, healing, righteousness, peace, rest, and strength just as a flock under the skilled and loving management of their shepherd is.

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever

This is of utmost importance because all the above will follow only as we choose to dwell in the house of the LORD. We proclaim this in this life and then so in eternity.

And finally, who can have total victory in this fallen world? Only those who believe in Jesus:

1 John 5:1-5

Faith in the Son of God

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. 3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. 5 And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
