Step 6

JESUS SAID GO AND SIN NO MORE

(a barrier to healing)

Sin is defined as follows: to miss the mark, to err, be mistaken, to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honor, to do or go wrong, to wander from the law of God, violate God's law.

YOU MAY HAVE TO DEAL WITH SIN IN YOUR LIFE IN ORDER TO BREAK DOWN A BARRIER TO HEALING. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT SIN CAN OPEN THE DOOR TO SPIRITUAL BATTLES IN YOUR LIFE. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IF YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS AND CONFESS YOUR SINS AND ASK GOD TO HELP YOU, HE WILL. AND, THE BEAUTY OF GOD’S GRACE IS THAT HE DOES NOT CONDEMN YOU AS THE DEVIL WILL TRY TO DO! ALSO, HE WILL NOT PUNISH YOU IF YOU ARE SINCERE ABOUT REPENTING, OR CHANGING. IT’S IMPORTANT TO READ THE BIBLE CONSTANTLY TO SEE SIN THAT YOU DIDN’T EVEN KNOW YOU WERE COMMITTING. I PERSONALLY WAS AMAZED AT HOW WE CAN BE OPERATING IN SIN AND NOT EVEN KNOW IT. IN FACT, AS I INDICATED IN THE CHAPTER ON FAITH, LACK OF FAITH IS ACTUALLY SIN! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT LACK OF FAITH IS A SIN? IT SAYS IN THE BIBILE THAT GOD’S WAYS ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN OUR WAYS AND WHAT WE MAY BELIEVE TO BE RIGHTEOUS MAY NOT BE IN GOD’S EYES. WE ARE DECEIVED BY THE DEVIL. REMEMBER, THE WHOLE IDEA OF BEING UNDER DECEPTION IS THAT YOU ARE NOT EVEN MINUTELY AWARE THAT YOU ARE DECEIVED. THE ANSWER IS CLEAR THOUGH. YOU MUST READ THE BIBLE AND LISTEN TO TEACHINGS TO BE ENLIGHTENED AND BE MADE AWARE OF THE DECEPTION. WE NEED TO MAKE IT THE PRIORITY IN OUR LIFE, EVEN IF WE GO TO CHURCH. WITHOUT SUCH, WE WILL MOST ASSUREDLY BE DECEIVED AND DEFEATED BY THE ENEMY. BUT, BE ENCOURAGED, THE DEVIL HAS BEEN TOTALLY DEFEATED BY JESUS’ RESURRECTION POWER AND JESUS WILL BE FAITHFUL TO HELP US BY HIS GRACE. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SIN AND HE WAS CHASTISED FOR OUR WELL BEING MEANING THAT HE PAID THE PRICE FOR OUR SIN SO THAT WE ARE NO LONGER GUILTY AND WE ARE FREE TO FOLLOW HIM WITH COMPLETE HEALTH. HOWEVER, IF WE DON’T BELIEVE IN THIS, AND WE FOLLOW THE WORLDS WAYS AND DOCTRINES, THEN WE WILL NOT RECEIVE THE BENEFIT OF IT. SO, THEN, WE MUST KEEP PRAYING ABOUT ANYTHING THAT IS BOTHERING US AS WELL AS TO BE ENLIGHTENED IF SOMETHING IS IN THE WAY OF OUR HEALING. GOD GIVES US MUCH GRACE TO DO SO…

KEEP IN MIND THAT GRACE IS DEFINED AS THE FOLLOWING:

...of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues, in order to conform us to His son Jesus.

God promises to restore your health, but we must follow Him to receive that promise…

Psalm 119:93

I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have revived me (revived means: to live, have life, remain alive, sustain life, live prosperously, live forever, be quickened, be alive, be restored to life or health).

Lamentations 3:40

Let us examine and probe our ways, and let us return to the LORD.

1 John 1:9

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Matthew 1:21 NLT

“And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.

Acts 13:38

Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

1 John 2:1-2 NLT

1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely. 2 He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

Psalm 32:1-7

1 How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered! 2 How blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit! 3 When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah. 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD "; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah. 6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him. (Note: in other words, it’s too late when the floods come) 7 You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Ephesians 6:2-3

2 HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH.

Proverbs 14:30

A relaxed attitude lengthens life; jealousy (of others) rots it away. (In other words, don't hold onto jealousy for your own good, but ask Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith to help rid you of such.)

Matthew 6:14

“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Psalm 38:3

There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation (anger); there is no health in my bones because of my sin.

1 Corinthians 11:27-30

When taking part in communion…27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep (die).

Galatians 6:7

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

Galatians 6:7 is very, very important as we may be opening the door to sickness. Do not subscribe to the misguided precept that God allows sickness for a reason or to teach us something, no, better that we take responsibility for our actions. Sowing and reaping is a precept in Gods creation, whether for good or bad. We should always pray to the Lord while we are thinking of a sin, or while we are contemplating taking action on a sin and even while we are doing a sin! God will love you for it and heal you. If we continue in a belief that God allows sickness, we will be opening the door to the potential for sickness to attack and we will lose faith in His protection and His healing. That's what the devil wants. Instead focus on the fact that God is our Father and He is protecting us against sickness and healing us. Focus on God as our protector against sickness, and Jesus who is "The Great Physician".  Focus on facts like Jesus came to make us whole and "by His stripes we have been healed". Why would Gods Word be filled with all those verses that He protects us from all harm, and then allow sickness. Does He fail? No, Galatians 6:7 presents us with the precept of reaping and sowing and we should meditate on that for our own good and thank the Lord that He is long-suffering and merciful to give us much time to renew our minds to Christ.

Romans 7:18-19

18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. Note: this is Paul speaking, so even he has issues. This is why we must always confess and pray to God to help us to do good, even when we don’t want to! And, especially when we are about to sin.

Galatians 5:16-24

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Note: Sin isn’t something easily done away with, this is because it’s our fallen nature. It’s nearly impossible to be obedient. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it? Jeremiah continues in verse 10, “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.”

Believe it or not, we can become desirous of being obedient (which is actually a great sign that you are truly saved, see 1 John in your Bible). Our fallen nature wants to be disobedient, but our nature can be transformed to actually be desirous of being obedient. This is done by prayer and asking God to change us and help us, which according to His Word He will do. This is where, often, trials come in.

You will see how as you continue to pray for help. Even in sinful moments, pray and He will intervene to get us out of trouble or even to keep us from getting into trouble. And we all need help in that area, no exceptions. Therefore, the goal is to actually want, or desire, to be obedient and this naturally comes about as you see Gods helping hand in your life and you are grateful, so grateful that you want to be obedient. Remember, being disobedient comes with consequences, maybe even sickness and disease, while being obedient (not forced, but transformed) brings favor, per the following verses:

Philippians 4:9

The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Numbers 12:1, 9-10

1 Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married (for he had married a Cushite woman); ...9 so the anger of the LORD burned against them and He departed. 10 But when the cloud had withdrawn from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. As Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was leprous.

Matthew 7:24-25

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.

1 John 2:16-17

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

Psalm 106:3

How blessed are those who keep justice, who practice righteousness at all times!

Psalm 119:40 NLT

I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness.

John 14:21

Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”

The Bible stresses walking in the way of the LORD, these verses and precepts are powerful...

1 John 3:22

...and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

Exodus 15:26

And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer.”

Deuteronomy 5:33

"You shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you will possess.”

Deuteronomy 6:1-2

OBEY GOD AND PROSPER: 1 “Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, 2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged....so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.

Proverbs 3:1-2

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

Deuteronomy 5:29

Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments always, that it may be well with them and with their sons forever!

Proverbs 9:10-11

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 11 For by Me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you.

Job 36:10-11

10 He opens their ear to instruction, and commands that they return from evil. 11 If they hear and serve Him, They will end their days in prosperity and their years in pleasures.

James 1:21-25

21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. 22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

NOTE: As the Bible says and as we soon find out after reading the Bible, we are sinful by nature, but God tells us not to be. That is quite the quandary. But not so when we make Jesus our Lord and Savior as He says He will send a helper (the Holy Spirit) that will help us transform. And when we see progress it will be humbling because we’ll see how we cannot do it on our own but only with His help, and as the Bible says, we will prolong our life and it will be a healthy one.

Focus on controlling your Anger. Anger, I believe, is at the root of many of our problems in the world today (it was probably no different in the past)...

Genesis 4:6-8

6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” 8 Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

COMMENT: The scary thing about anger is that God says you’re on your own to subdue it and master it and that sin is crouching at your door. That’s enough to make one think before letting anger get a hold on you. It’s interesting that anger was at the root of the first sin when the world fell.

Ephesians 4:26

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

COMMENT: Ephesians 4:26 seems to say that it is normal to be angry or that it is inevitable that we have times where we will get angry, however, it’s of utmost importance that we get our spirit man to maturity so that we have better, or even full, control over it (see Proverbs 16:32 below). That’s the important thing, having full control over it and mastering it, not letting it master us. So, then, we must build up our spirit man to be stronger than our flesh, to overcome anger.

Psalm 145:8

The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

Nehemiah 9:17

They refused to listen, and did not remember Your wondrous deeds which You had performed among them; so they became stubborn and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness; And You did not forsake them.

Psalms 30:5

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.

James 1:19-20

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Proverbs 16:32

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, (is better) than he who captures a city.

COMMENT: We should aspire to be slow to anger as the LORD is to us, and be grateful that He is slow to anger against us, otherwise we would be in a lot of trouble with God as was Cain.

Ecclesiastes 7:9

Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, for anger resides in the bosom of fools.

Proverbs 14:17 NLT

Short-tempered people do foolish things, and schemers are hated.

Proverbs 15:18

A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but the slow to anger calms a dispute.

Proverbs 22:24-25

Do not associate with a man given to anger; or go with a hot-tempered man, or you will learn his ways and find a snare for yourself.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Psalm 37:8

Cease from anger and forsake wrath; do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.

Proverbs 14:29

He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

Ephesians 4:31

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

COMMENT: The verses above warn us that anger will cause us to do foolish things and that it carries many consequences that may have to be dealt with for a long time, stealing our peace, which is exactly what Satan wants. Satan will tell you that you have good cause to be angry and surely you probably do in most cases, but that doesn’t mean you are to act on it because that’s exactly what the devil wants you to do to ruin you. Instead get angry, then quickly forgive.

How do we deal with anger? We cast your care on the Lord and leave vengeance for Him…

1 Peter 5:7

…casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Romans 12:19

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Mark 11:14-16

[Jesus Drives Money Changers from the Temple] Then they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out (in anger) those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves;

COMMENT: The only anger that is good is righteous anger. Our spirit, as it grows in the LORD, will help us discern between good and bad anger.

Perhaps Most of All...

Luke 6:27-29

27 “But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.

Romans 12:14

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

NOTE: Do these two things above (even though against your nature) and your life will change!!!

SUMMARY POINTS FOR BARRIERS TO HEALING:

  • God hates pride, so we need to humble ourselves before the Lord and He will lift us up.

  • There is no reason for us to be prideful, it’s not like we had anything to do with creating the world.

  • Do not judge so that we will not be judged.

  • As gold is refined by fire, we too may go through fiery trials to be refined to the likeness of Christ.

  • Pray unceasingly to God for His divine help.

  • We can be comforted that we have angels to minister to us.

  • Our hope is in God, not the things of the world.

  • We must keep our minds focused on noble and honorable things and things worthy of praise, not the garbage of the world, as our thought life is extremely important for health and healing.

  • We must always strive for right living as it is written that a righteous man will flourish like a palm tree.

  • We must always strive for faith as it is faith that heals.

  • We must always pray to God for help with our sinful ways since there may be natural consequences of sin even though we are totally forgiven for such and the punishment has been paid by Jesus on the cross.

  • We should not wear ourselves out worrying over food or money, God is our provider.

  • Continue to stay in the Word in order to obtain joy and peace which is so important for our health contrary to feverish passions and stimulation as that of the world.

  • PRAISE GOD ALWAYS – REJOICE ALWAYS – DON’T GIVE A FOOTHOLD TO THE DEVIL! (Andrew Womack praised God even when his son died – son was raised from the dead).
