Step 2

JESUS HEALS

JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS TO REDEEM THOSE WHO BELIEVE FROM ALL CURSES OF SICKNESS AND DISEASES. WHILE THE FALL OF ADAM AND EVE BROUGHT ON SIN, SICKNESS, AND DISEASE, JESUS REDEEMED US FROM THEM. MAN WAS PERFECT IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN, WITHOUT SIN, SICKNESS OR DISEASE. JESUS, WHO IS DESCRIBED AS THE “LAST ADAM”, CAME TO UNDO WHAT ADAM DID AND TO GIVE LIFE, AND TO GIVE IT ABUNDANTLY, DEFEATING SATAN WHEN HE ROSE AGAIN, AND IN A WAY GIVING US BACK THE GARDEN OF EDEN. THEREFORE, WE ARE REDEEMED FROM ALL CURSES, WE ARE HIS TEMPLE AND HE LIVES IN US. THE FOLLOWING VERSES SHOW THIS. TAKE HOLD OF THESE PROMISES OF GOD.

Again, to remember, our foundational scripture for this book, Isaiah 53:4-5…

Isaiah 53:4-5

4 Surely (truly, indeed, strong assertive force) our griefs (our sickness, anxiety, disease) He (Jesus) Himself bore, and our sorrows (our physical and mental pain) He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions (our rebellion and sin), He was crushed for our iniquities (our immorality, evilness); the chastening for our well-being (health, prosperity, peace) fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed (cured, caused to heal, repair, made whole).

Confirmed by Matthew in the New Testament…

Matthew 8:14-17

14 When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him. 16 When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”

1 Peter 2:24

...and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. Note: This word “healed” means to cure or free from errors and sins and to bring about one's salvation, so it doesn’t directly refer to healing as one might argue, but since sickness comes about from sin it certainly applies.

Galatians 3:13-14 NLT

13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” 14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.

Note: According to the Bible we are redeemed from the curses of the world, a world controlled and deceived by Satan who is described in the Bible as the power of the air. We can have no part in his (Satan's) plans if we believe in our LORD Jesus, our savior from all the world’s evil…

Isaiah 58:11 NLT

The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.

Matthew 8:1-3 NLT

1 When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. 2 And a leper came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Matthew 15:29-31

29 Departing from there, Jesus went along by the Sea of Galilee, and having gone up on the mountain, He was sitting there. 30 And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them. 31 So the crowd marveled as they saw the mute speaking, the crippled restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Exodus 23:25

But you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst. *Take note of the first part of this verse, i.e., “you shall serve the LORD your God…” Note: In other words, we cannot rightly expect that God blesses our food and water and removes sickness from our midst if we are not actually serving Him. And don’t service idols as in Exodus 32:34: But go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.” 35 Then the LORD smote the people, because of what they did with the calf (idol) which Aaron had made.

Luke 13:10-13 and 16

10 And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your sickness.” 13 And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God... 16 “And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?”

Psalms 103:2-5

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; 3 Who pardons all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases; 4 Who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; 5 Who satisfies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Luke 6:18-19

18 who had come to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were being cured. 19 And all the people were trying to touch Him, for power was coming from Him and healing them all.

Ezekiel 34:11-16

11 For thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day. 13 I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land. 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights of Israel. There they will lie down on good grazing ground and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest,” declares the Lord GOD. 16 “I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment.

Matthew 9:35

Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

Matthew 20:29-34

29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him. 30 And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 33 They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.

Mark 5:25-29

25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— 27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. 28 For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” 29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

In Acts 10:38 Peter talks about “...how God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.” Note: There are several takeaways from this passage. One, Jesus healed all. Two, it may imply that all sickness is a result of the devil because Peter says that Jesus healed all who were under the power of the devil. This is why knowing about spiritual warfare, as mentioned earlier, is of utmost importance in our battle for health and healing. Three, “God was with Him.” I suppose it’s an obvious statement but still one that we may not take seriously, but we need God with us to have the power to heal. In order to have “God with us” we need to seek Him first in our life and get all unbelief and sin out of our life.

Acts 19:11-12

11 God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out.

Psalm 146:8

The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises up those who are bowed down;

Psalm 71:20-21

20 You who have shown me many troubles and distresses will revive me again, and will bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21 may You increase my greatness and turn to comfort me.

Psalm 147-3

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

2 Chronicles 16:11-14 says, “Now, the acts of Asa from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians. 13 So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign. 14 They buried him in his own tomb…” (See more comments on this passage in Epilogue)

Note: This list of healings, while impressive, is not all inclusive as there are many more to be found in the Bible. Also, John 21:25 says, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”

You may believe that you are healed, but symptoms return, how can that be? The fact is that the devil may try to convince you that you are not healed. Then, symptoms return. Maybe, even, he doesn’t need to convince you, as you may still have unbelief.

Always remember the key verse in Isaiah in order to sear (sear means to burn or scorch the surface of something with a sudden, intense heat) it in your mind while at the same time replacing wrong, damaging and toxic thoughts:

Isaiah 53:4-5

4 Surely our griefs (our sickness, anxiety, disease) He Himself bore, and our sorrows (our physical and mental pain) He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted.

As Jesus did in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11) respond with Gods Word. Select verses and principles that apply to your own personal affairs and issues. Many of these verses and principles are in this book. Continue to do so no matter how long it takes…sometimes a miracle will happen, but often an “un-searing” must take place that will take time. Many times you will need prayer from others so seek others. ALWAYS speak frankly and honestly with God.

Healing Note:

If Isaiah 53 above is true, and it is if you believe in the Word of God, then all believers are actually walking around in total health and healing, we just don’t know it or have faith in it. Even if we have a condition, it does not affect us or manifest itself due to the fact, according to God, that we are walking in total health due to what Jesus did at the cross and the power of His resurrection. It, then, can be said that the only reason that we have sickness is that we believe we have sickness and the devil keeps convincing us of it….but we have Isaiah 53 and all the scriptures in this book (and more not in here which you can find for yourself) as assurance that we are healed, and we just need to get to the position of believing in it and perhaps just as important overcoming the barriers to receiving this wonderful blessing from the Lord. Keep reading for these barriers.

SUMMARY POINTS:

  • Jesus died for you so that you can be made whole (the word "sozo" which means to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):—to make well, to heal, to restore to health, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole).

  • While being made whole is a free gift from God, it is NOT automatic. We must believe it. This is where spiritual warfare begins. The devil promotes unbelief, but Jesus promotes belief.

  • We must use the Bible and Bible truths and verses to fight the good fight.

  • The Lord will be with you in all your battles.

  • Our goal is to have ultimate belief in all the above verses and principles so as to get the maximum benefit from such. And remember that "belief" means to commit and trust in Jesus as opposed to the worlds way of doing things.

  • Adam and Eve had life abundantly, they lost it, Jesus came, and He won it back for those who would believe.

  • Always seek God first, not physicians first per 2 Chronicles 16:11-14.

  • Jesus did so many healings and miracles that “even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written”, so He will certainly do it for you, and even you may be able to heal others.

  • Keep your healing by applying God’s principles above, as the devil may try to steal it away with negative thoughts of doubt and even your own un-renewed mind may not believe that you are healed.

AND REMEMBER ALWAYS THAT GOD ALONE IS THE ONE WHO HEALS THEE AND HE SAYS "I AM THE LORD THAT HEALETH THEE!"
