EPILOGUE

As I was walking the mall one day, I saw a huge sign in the middle of the walkways hung from the highest peak, where you could not miss it. It read (name changed),

ABC Community Hospital “The Power to Heal”

However, after reading the health and healing scriptures herein, we can know, or have hope (God’s kind of hope that carries with it an expected positive outcome), that it would be more accurate for the sign to say...

Jesus, “The Power to Heal”

Granted, we need doctors and hospitals and they are extremely valuable, but we cannot put them first! God is first. Jesus said to “only believe”. So, then, should we use doctors? As we have seen in the many verses and precepts herein, Seek God first in all situations, then, if your soul is not ready, see the doctor. Keep pursuing God until your soul is ready and use doctors as a helper as you would an investment advisor, but not as your healer.

Medicine

According to the Bible we, as Christians and born again into the Kingdom of God, should not get too comfortable with taking and using medicine. For one thing, taking medicine and relying on such will cause us to NOT rely on God as our healer and then to totally disregard the Bible and the fact that Jesus is the Great Physician and that "by His stripes we are healed". Besides, medicine has many side effects, some short term and some, which is more dangerous, long term. The long term side effects are more dangerous because the effects many times are found out when its much too late. These effects are what brings about all those class action lawsuits.

Consider Asa vs Hezekiah in the Old Testament…

Asa does not seek God first:

2 Chronicles 16:11-14 says, “Now, the acts of Asa from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians. 13 So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign. 14 They buried him in his own tomb…”

Hezekiah seeks God about his illness:

2 Kings 20: 1-7 says, 1 In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” 2 Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying, 3 “Remember now, O LORD, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 5 “Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.”’” 7 Then Isaiah said, “Take a cake of figs.” And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

Again, seek God first in all situations, then, if your soul is not ready, see the doctor and take your medicine. Keep pursuing God until your soul is ready to get off the medicine. If getting off the medicine doesn't work, rinse and repeat!

Another witness to Jesus as our healer vs physicians:

Mark 5:25-29

25 A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26 and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— 27 after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. 28 For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” 29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

According to the above, we must always seek God first! Otherwise, our goal, then, should be to take advantage of the world's remedies as needed (which of course are given to us by God and maybe even for His good purpose before we get to a place of only believing in Him), including hospitals and doctors, while we grow in our faith to the ultimate, that is, knowing truly in our spirit that we are healed and protected by God and that God alone is our divine healer. Hearing the Word builds faith, and faith then builds belief in health and healing. Not in the way of “feelings”, but in our soul. If we could come to the Lord as children it would be far better. Not so, though, as the enemy has instilled in us doubts and the culture around us with its numerous commercials, unrealistic promises, obsessive promotions, and huge amounts of money spent advertising is a strong force offering more and more doubts and more so-called remedies. Be careful of these remedies, as anything that is a drug (not of natural God made) is deemed by the Bible as witchcraft and sorcery, that which they used in days of old and even now but call it pharmaceuticals/drugs. We must ween off, with the help of God, all pharmaceuticals and replace it with our faith in the one true God! He has much more power than anything mankind can muster up. Study this further to be acceptable to the Lord. It is very important that you study this further, even for your very life.

Let’s keep repeating these important principles to help us in our journey to freedom:

●    “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.” (Matthew 8:17)

●    JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS AND ROSE AGAIN AND DEFEATED SATAN.

●    “BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED.” (1 Peter 2:24)

●    WE ARE REDEEMED FROM THE CURSE OF ALL SIN, SICKNESS, AND DISEASE.

●    “I WILL GIVE THANKS TO YOU, FOR I AM FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE; WONDERFUL ARE YOUR WORKS, AND MY SOUL KNOWS IT VERY WELL.” (Psalms 139:14)

●    NOTHING CAN HURT US, NOT SERPENTS, NOT EVEN DEADLY POISON, NOT TERRORS OF THE NIGHT NOR DISEASE THAT STALKS IN THE DARKNESS NOR DISASTER THAT STRIKES AT MIDDAY! (Psalm 91 and Mark 16:17-18)

●    WE MUST NOT LOSE HOPE, BUT KEEP STRIVING FOR FAITH BECAUSE IT IS FAITH THAT HEALS.

●    “BUT YOU SHALL SERVE THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND HE WILL BLESS YOUR BREAD AND YOUR WATER, AND I WILL REMOVE SICKNESS FROM YOUR MIDST.” (Exodus 23:25)

A final note to ponder...Luke of the Bible, a well-educated, trained physician and writer of both the Gospel of Luke and Book of Acts, while undoubtedly had used his knowledge of doctoring to help people, actually never proclaimed in the Bible to “go see a doctor” or even to “make an appointment”, but always proclaimed Jesus as the healer. Jesus never referred anyone to Doctor Luke.
